Bike Eldorado Lungau
The whole of the Lungau region is ideal for cyclists, whether for those on leisurely tours, for racing-bike fans or mountain bikers. Ride past flowering fragrant meadows and forests, alongside cool mountain streams towards awe-inspiring mountain peaks. Have a rest and a snack in a cosy mountain hut. Visit great cultural centres, the witch’s palace at Moosham and the mighty castle at Mauterndorf . See the ‘Troadkasten’, the storage houses for grain that are found only in this region.
Mountain-bike Lungau Network
There are more than 470 km of marked mountain-bike tracks throughout the Lungau region. From all the larger centres in the Lungau there are 15 selected and extensively signposted tours at all levels of difficulty from demanding to easy. The Mur Cycle Track Tamsweg is the terminus of the Mur Valley Railway (Murtalbahn). So together with the village of Muhr it is a good starting point for the Mur River cycle route, which takes you from Muhr in the Lungau region to Bad Radkersburg in the neighbouring province of Styria (Steiermark). The 340 km long cycle track, which is graded easy to moderately hard, is excellent for touring. The route consists of well-paved asphalted tracks and very lightly used back roads. If you visit all the diverse places of interest along the route you will take about one week to complete it.
